Skincare Routine Essentials

A proper skincare routine is essential!

Having flawless, radiant, and smooth skin is the dream for most people, but unfortunately, it’s not always an easy goal to attain. For many people, it takes a lot of trial and error as well as effort and consistency in order to nail down the products that are best suited for their specific skin type. To simplify the sometimes dreaded task of figuring out how to have glowing skin, though, we have put together a simple list of tips and tricks about getting your skincare routine down to a science. Read more below.

Wash your face every night.

This may seem obvious, but it’s such a crucial part of any skincare routine that we feel compelled to mention it here, even if it is a no-brainer. Throughout the day, oil, makeup, dirt, and bacteria (gross!) can linger on your face. Leaving in there overnight allows it to clog your pores, causing acne, irritation, wrinkles, and imperfections. We recommend using a gentle foaming or exfoliating cleanser each night with warm water before you hit the sack to ensure a healthy glow.

Slap on some SPF.

Everyone knows that you should slather on sunscreen for a day at the beach, but most people probably aren’t using SPF on a daily basis as a part of their normal skincare routine. However, it’s definitely something that should be done. Just wearing any old SPF doesn’t necessarily do the trick, though. Natural sunscreens are much better for your skin because of the fact that they are devoid of the cocktail of chemicals that traditional sunscreens include. Instead of containing harmful substances to help the SPF be absorbed in your skin and evenly distributed, natural sunscreen contains zinc and titanium dioxide to mirror the sun in order to deflect a burn. Remember that as little as five minutes of sun time can lead to wrinkles, making it even more important to protect your skin on a daily basis.

Choose the right makeup and cosmetics.

One part of your skincare routine should involve ensuring that you are choosing the right makeup and cosmetics for your particular skin. Everyone has different levels of sensitivity, so it’s important to find what works best for you! In particular, you should look for products that adequately hydrate your face in order to eliminate the production of excess oil. Also be sure to read the ingredient lists of all of your cosmetics, avoiding chemicals like BHA, BHT, DEA-related ingredients, dibutyl phthalate, aminophenol, diaminobenzene, and phenylenediamine. These chemicals and toxins can be the catalyst of skin irritation and allergies and are also not good for the environment, so they’re certainly better left alone.

Recognize habits and tend to problem areas.

Everyone has a tendency towards certain skin problems over others, so a lot of your skincare routine revolves around getting to know how you can solve and prevent your most frequent irritations. For instance, some people are more prone to razor bumps or ingrown hairs after shaving while others battle more frequently with cystic acne. Finding remedies and solutions and then being consistent in your regime to belittle them is key to having the flawless skin you desire.

Pay attention to your diet.

Believe it or not, what we put in our mouths has a large effect on the clarity and quality of our skin. Maintaining a diet rich in foods like tomatoes, green tea, kale, and avocados (among many others!) does a great deal to contribute to your overall glow. In addition, to keep skin healthy you should limit your intake of sugar, dairy, and alcohol.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

One of the all-time best things you can do for you skin is to adequately hydrate your body, getting those eight cups or more per day. Drinking enough water prevents your skin from becoming dry and flaky and also flushes your body of toxins that could be the cause behind pesky breakouts.

Moisturize.

Moisturizing is an important part of the skincare process. Especially after a long, hot shower, your body is devoid of the moisture it needs to stay smooth and soft. It’s always a good idea to apply a natural lightly-scented lotion after you bathe. Also, using face and eye cream is a good way to keep your face looking young, fresh, and smooth.

It is certainly a challenge to keep your skin smooth, even, and completely clear. And while it may be a lot of work, we certainly think it’s worth the effort to have that all-around glow that you will love to see in the mirror. Follow these tips for a radiant look from head to toe!
